Bike assembly & Adjustment

Ordering bikes online

One of the questions that our customer advisers are asked most frequently is:
"In what condition will my new bike be shipped?"

This is a critical question because a bike is a complex and technically complicated product. A modern bike can only really be assembled from scratch for the road today with a great deal of experience and special tools. To enable a bike to perform over many years, the gears, brake system, suspension and bearings have to be adjusted and checked by a skilled bike builder before its first trip out on the road. Ultimately it is also about your safety!

Factory-assembled bikes require final assembly

Very few bike manufacturers ship their brand-name products in a condition that end customers can cope with. However, for this reason the industry has pretty much agreed that specialist local dealers will take responsibility and guarantee final assembly and the fine-tuning of bikes for end customers.

Bikester.co.uk is your specialist online dealer! In order to be able to guarantee our customers a consistently high level of assembly, we employ more than ten skilled bike builders, who subject every bike to a strictly defined assembly and test process before it is shipped.

The bikester.co.uk assembly process

Step 1: Gear adjustment

Derailleurs, internally geared hubs or planet gears – irrespective of the design of your gears, there has to be a clean shift between the different gear ratios. A well-adjusted gear assembly will guarantee the best possible transmission of power and unlimited cycling enjoyment.

Step 2: Wheel centring and alignment

A wheel very rarely arrives from the manufacturer in a perfect state. By centring and aligning the wheels, we are able to eliminate any production-related imprecision and inaccuracies. A wheel simply has to rotate perfectly at bikester.co.uk before it can be shipped.

Step 3: Adjustment of the braking systems

Mechanical rim or calliper brakes and hydraulic disc brakes have to be adjusted and checked by skilled, trained fitters before they can be guaranteed to work properly and safely. Therefore, prior to shipment every bike undergoes a specific brake test.

Step 4: Final inspection

In a final stage, our bike fitters inspect one last time all the safety-relevant screws, the braking system, suspension, bearings and joints. Before the bike can be packed securely into our special shipping box, each bikester.co.uk fitter signs his name to guarantee the quality of assembly work performed.

Step 5: Shipment

Unpack your bike and off you go – this is still our pipe dream but we are not quite 100 % there yet! Bikes are bulky goods after all and have to be packaged as such if shipping costs are to remain viable for our customers. However, with a few manual adjustments, your new bike can be assembled at home ready for the open road. On receipt of your bikester.co.uk special shipping box, all you have to do it tighten the handlebars, fit the front wheel and fit the pedals. All the tools required, together with detailed assembly instructions, are enclosed with the bike. You will see for yourself – it’s really not hard and you can’t go far wrong!

The bikester.co.uk team hopes that you have great fun with your new bike!
