When it's dark and stormy outside, your bike is the last place you want to be. But sometimes special circumstances -- or a strict training plan -- allow you no choice, even when it's raining. Riders who aren't afraid of the elements or just want to be on the safe side should consider fenders. The advantages are clear: fenders effectively keep away mud and splashes, so your face, back and rear end stay dry. In particular, they keep mud from splashing in your eye, which could easily lead to hazardous situations during off-road rides. Not only does a fender keep clothes clean and dry, it also prevents the cyclist from cooling off too quickly. For trekking and cross-country bicycles, we recommend securely mounted fenders with a stable lateral brace. Splashguards are a perfect solution thanks to their closed construction and lack of loose parts. This type of fender is also a better fit, aesthetically speaking, for filigree racing bikes. For sports and mountain bikes with wide studded tyres, clip-on fenders are preferable, as they can be quickly attached and removed as needed to make off-road expeditions a much more enjoyable experience.
