Sports Nutrition
Every outdoor athlete knows firsthand the importance of nutrition on the road, whether during cycling tours or on foot. It's an all too familiar situation: your energy starts to plummet and hunger sets in, and the only thing in your pack is a bruised apple or a squashed banana. And yet the old fallback, the sandwich, isn't a viable alternative- it sits much too heavily in the stomach. Sports nutrition has come a long way in recent years. Specially developed products like energy bars and mineral drink powders are excellent cycling companions. It's important to distinguish between sports nutrition products that give the athlete a quick boost of energy, and fitness supplements intended to taken on a long-term basis. If you experience the notorious “bonk” during a 90 kilometre alpine tour, simple carbohydrates (rapidly usable sugars) are the only thing that can help. Energy gels and bars with a high carbohydrate content are often the best way to make sure fuel is available for the road ahead -- or at least for the next uphill metre. In order to equip yourself with the necessary minerals and energy-rich nutrients before a ride, you can find special isotonic powder which are added to your drink. For athletes undergoing long-term training that includes strength exercises and fitness workouts, we recommend nutritional supplements that support muscle building and fat burning. Protein shakes and amino acids also have a positive effect on strength and endurance training. And it's a delicious bonus when these drinks and bars taste good as well.
