Chains 6/7/8 Speed
7 fold chains are in essence no different from 8 fold chains, which is why some manufacturers offer the same chain model for both types of gear. Thanks to the sometimes jerky tractive force and outer soiling, chains wear down relatively quickly and signs of this can be seen at around 1000 kilometres. The intervals between the individual chain links increase due to the frictional force on the chain. Good quality chains should however be adverse to a bit of wear and tear and should at least for the medium term, be reliable, in particular when it comes to athletic use. The service life of a chain is not only dependent on its production and the materials used: Regular chain maintenance can significantly extend the service life of a chain.
