Racing Bike Chain Guides
Racing bike derailleurs function along the same principals as the front switch gear units on conventional derailleurs. A shift fork is switched from a parallelogram either to the right or to the left, and this simultaneously throws the chain sideways from one occupied chain ring to the next, to either a larger or smaller ring. The term derailleur refers to the somewhat furious gear change, with which the chain is thrown from one chain ring to the next. A derailleur should be torsion resistant with robust bearings, so that precise and rapid chain ring changes can be achieved. With racing biking it is important to note how many sprockets are available. The latest development in racing biking is 10 fold sprocket cassettes, which enable the use of thinner chains. This in turn means that the size of the derailleur needs to be reduced.
