Disc Brakes & Accessories

Disc brakes are either available as mechanical or hydraulic brakes. The central element of a disc brake is a brake disc which is mounted on a special hub. With mechanical disc brakes, the brake pads are pressed against the brake disk using a Bowden cable. The resulting friction slows the wheel disc brakes from the hub. Hydraulic disc brakes function with a virtually maintenance free sealed oil system. The hydraulically generated pressure of the linings on the brake disk is many times higher. At the same the hydraulic disc brakes offer an optimal dosage and far less hand strength is required. The decisive advantage in addition to the brutal braking force, is that hydraulic disc brakes achieve nearly the same braking performance under all weather conditions. When braking in wet or snow, the difference to mechanical braking systems is, however, particularly striking. Hydraulic disc brakes are basically maintenance free. Should the the closed oil system however start leaking or lose its pressure point on the brake, then it is necessary to carry out maintenance work on the disk brake. In the section: Disc Brake Accessories, hobby mechanics can find all the necessary service kits and mineral oils to properly deaerate the hydraulic disc brakes or to refill them.
