Disc Brakes
Brakes are without doubt one of the most important components of a bike as they are responsible for safety in traffic and on off-road routes in the last instance. Good brakes allow control and offer the necessary safety to bring your bike to a stop in dangerous situations. There is a wide range of different constructions, whereby mechanical rim brakes, hydraulic disc brakes and hydraulic rim brakes in particular have become the predominant models over the last few years. Although cable brakes are functional and easy to repair in the case of damage, they only reach a limited level of effectiveness, particularly in wet conditions. Hydraulic braking systems offer considerably more braking power; their main market presence is in the form of disc brakes. The key advantages of hydraulic disc brakes can be seen in the sheer braking power, lighter control and optimised application. The wear on the brake pads is just as low as with hydraulic systems with fixed maintenance costs.
