Bicycle Tyres & Tubes
When looking for the right bicycle tyre, cyclists often have as hard a time as the guys in the Formula 1: Should the emphasis be on rolling resistance, on traction, on weight, or rather on puncture protection? All are critical factors that make up a good tyre and can affect a much changed handling. The differences are concealed in the details and should comply with the individual requirements of a cyclist and the area of use: For instance, trekking cyclists especially require tyres with a good rolling resistance and optimum puncture protection. Racing cyclists on the other hand need to have the best possible grip and traction in curves, and the tyre should be very light. Mountain bikers usually want to have the everything in one: The tyre should be light and yet still be puncture protected, but also offer good traction in bad weather, and of course be good in curves so as not to slide on gravel paths. The rolling resistance shouldn’t be forgotten, either. In short, choosing the right tyre isn’t exactly easy, which is why a lot of manufacturers offer special wheels for each need. Special rubber mixtures and reinforced carcasses are used to minimise punctures. But whatever your decision, in the end only you can decide whether a tyre meets your requirements.
