Only one gear? that’s always enough for the ascetic cyclists. They refrain from using technology citing the motto “Less is more”, not only in relation to the gearshift: Singlespeed MTBs can often do without a suspension fork, unless they are intended for acrobatic stunts a la urban freeride. And the racing bike often do not even have brakes and free-wheel just like other thoroughbred racing machines for the (race) track. When cycling, single speeders get their enjoyment by concentrating on the basics, namely wrestling the trail or getting through a city jungle as quickly as possible.
