Protective Equipment
Protectors are a good thing and are not just geared towards wimps, quite the contrary. People who consider using protectors in order to perform their favourite sport in safety know just why. Not every cyclist needs such protective equipment, only tough boys and girls in particular. People who assess the worth of a bike primarily in terms of its flight and leap performance should seriously consider using protectors. Downhillers, freeriders and dirtjumpers know a thing or two about it: Not every leap comes with a perfect landing. Hefty slams and hard falls are simply part and parcel of it. If the kicker is too high again, the table too long or the drop too deep, then protectors can help prevent the worst. However, protectors are not only advisable for bikeparks or the freeride route. Many trails in the Alps or at Lake Garda also offer dynamic challenges. It’s reassuring when you don’t have to worry too much about possible falls on rough pebble or on extreme terrain. Knees, shins and elbows are the areas most prone to injury. In each case suitable and comparably comfortable protectors are there to prevent such injuries. Chest and/or back protectors are also recommended for fans of extended airtime. Falls from several metres height can cause lasting injury to the spine, the shoulder girdle and the ribcage. People who cut corners in this area could live to regret it at a later stage. There are ample videos on the Internet providing vivid evidence of these horror scenarios. Safety first!
