Invented in the 1960’s, MTB bikes were not that different from common sports bikes, except that the frame was designed to resist damage when riding on off-road paths. Legend has it that MTB bikes were first used by hippies who wanted to explore the wild countryside. In the 80’s, companies began to design real MTB models with proper materials, though it was only in the 90’s that the market for these bicycles became massive! Now MTB bikes are becoming more and more specialised to meet the needs of their prospective buyers.
