Hollowtech Crank & Octalink Bottom Bracket Axle Mount
Light cranks reduce the overall weight of the wheel and above all the rotating mass that is decisive for acceleration. The challenge is to reduce the weight of the crank without compromising stability and load-bearing capacity. Shimano's state-of-the-art forging technology offers an ideal solution with the Hollowtech crank.
Just like a high-quality frame tube, the hollow arm crank is extremely stable and resilient at very low weight. The bottom bracket also contributes an important part to the stiffest possible crank. Hollowtech cranks are not connected to the bottom bracket by means of the traditional square cone, but by an octagonal toothing with a larger diameter, which engages the counterpart on the hollow shaft of the inner bearing. This system is called Octalink.
This results in a stiffer crank/bottom bracket assembly.

Have this BB placed as a replacement for the original BB-25 that was delivered with my bike. better bearings, easy to assemble and probably better dismantled by aluminum instead of plastic.
