On days that start off fresh or when you can expect changeable weather, vests (also know as gilets) are ideal. These lightweight garments are great for wearing over a jersey to protect the upper body from the wind and keep you warm. Most models are windproof at the front and often have a higher collar. At the back they're usually very breathable, commonly using airy mesh fabric. When you no longer need it, take it off and stow it in your jersey pocket.
