Vectran Breaker
The breaker is an insert under the tread of the tire to protect it from cuts or stitches. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than comparable nylon breakers without negatively affecting the rolling resistance. Vectran is a synthetically produced high-tech fiber with a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from the melted liquid polymer Vectra and further processed to a multi-fiber yarn. Spider silk, and thus Vectran as well, has an enormous tensile strength at lowest weight.
The resistance is proven by many applications of Vectran: Retaining lines for astronauts, spinnaker sails, deep sea cables, cut-resistant clothing. Vectran can be found wherever extreme durability is required. The Vectran fiber has a tensile strength five times higher than steel, is fatigue-resistant and therefore extremely durable. Exactly the important properties to be used as puncture protection in a Continental Top tire.

DuraSkin
The patented and particularly light sidewall reinforcement of Continental tires is DuraSkin. Tires with DuraSkin sidewall protection must be able to insert properly. The high-quality polyamide fabric reliably protects the sidewall of the tire and arms the tire for the extreme. These tires stand out from the crowd thanks to their brown sidewall. Thus these tires are used under the most adverse conditions. On messenger bikes, the tires slide along curbs, on touring bikes they cross continents without chafing through, in racing they have to pass endurance tests like Paris-Roubaix.
