Product description

Giro Switchblade MIPS Helmet mat/gloss black (mat/gloss black)

The Switchblade MIPS is Giro's new ASTM Downhill certified full face helmet with a removable chin strap. Everything around this helmet is optimized for downhill, and that's why it's CPSC, EN-1078 and ASTM-1952-DH certified, with and without chinstrap. The chin strap is easy to remove. Press the buttons under the chin strap and lift it upwards. The installation of the chin strap is also child's play.

The Switchblade MIPS has the new Roc Loc Air DH Fit System, which is designed so that it does not accidentally move when it comes into contact with the backpack or neck brace. When the chin strap is removed, the built-in ventilation openings behind the cheek pads help keep a cool head on the way up to the next stage. The full-cut style gives this helmet an aggressive look and offers ASTM certification even when the chin strap is removed.

MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System)
MIPS is a sliding plane system inside the helmet that was developed to slow down or prevent the amount of energy transmitted to or from the head.

Roc Loc Air Fit System
The revolutionary Roc Loc Air Fit System has the same excellent characteristics as the Roc Loc 5, in addition it increases the airflow and ventilation inside the helmet in an impressive way. The unique design creates a small air cushion between the helmet shell and the head so that the airflow can flow and cool undisturbed without sacrificing fit and comfort. A new level of fit, comfort and ventilation that only Giro can offer.

In-Mold Construction
With the In-Mold construction, the robust polycarbonate outer shell is bonded to the impact-absorbing EPS inner shell in a single operation during the foaming process. This makes the helmet even more resistant without additional weight. This production process also makes it possible to form much better ventilation systems and openings. Compared to traditional helmets, In-Mold helmets are therefore lighter and have significantly better ventilation systems.

P.O.V Plus
Giro‘s P.O.V. Plus visor has an adjustment mechanism with which the visor can be adjusted in 3 steps up and down. In addition, the visor can be pushed up so far that, for example during a break, the goggle can be pushed onto the helmet. The adjustment can be done easily with one hand and during the ride.

Giro Switchblade MIPS Helmet mat/gloss black

Good
Translated from the German To the original
The helmet is well made, looks good once it's on and the fit is good. It might be a bit heavier than a regular full face due to the detachable chin bar mechanism, but I wanted that functionality so it's ok. One downside is that it's quite narrow at the bottom, mainly due to the padding around the cheeks, and it's a bit difficult to put on, plus I have to take my glasses off. My head is about 58 cm tall, so almost on the border to size M.

Well

The Switchblade is more of a full face helmet from which you can also remove the chin guard. But even without a chin guard, it feels more like full face. I have a size 58 and tried it in an M. Once it's on your head, it fits like a glove. Unfortunately, that's exactly how the process of putting on and taking off feels. I hardly got it over my ears. A very painful process. Since I wear glasses, it bothers me that I have to take off the glasses in order to be able to put on the helmet without a chin guard. But since most drive with sports glasses, everyone has the problem. Personally, the DD lock bothers me. Sure, it's very reliable and safe, but the helmet was just too tight for me to just loosen the chin strap and then be able to put the helmet on and off. The ventilation feels more like a full face helmet. The area of application of this helmet does not really open up to me. I still have an old Bell Super 3R, but it's a bit too big for me. But it is much more airy because it also leaves your ears free. You only need the chin guard when you are in the bike park, where the risk of falling is greater than on tours. The Bell's chin guard is sufficient for this additional security. The Giro may be good in the bike park, but it is too warm for tours even without a chin guard. If you only wear it in the bike park for convenience, you can buy a normal full face straight away. In addition, the Switchblade is probably only for narrow heads. If I took it in L, it would be like my Bell and it would be too far.
