Product description

Giro Switchblade MIPS Helmet matte harbor blue (matte harbor blue)

Everything about the switchblade is optimized for the descent. That's why in addition to mandatory standards it's also certified to astm-1952 dh with and without the chinbar. The chinbar is easy to remove - just push the buttons under the chinbar, rotate up, and take off - and it's just as easy to reinstall.

Another boast-worthy feature on the Switchblade Mips is the Roc Loc Air DH fit system, which has a bumper around the dial to prevent accidental adjustments if your helmet contacts your backpack or neck brace - all while keeping you cool. When the chinbar comes off, Wind Tunnel cheek pad ventilation adds even more cooling power as you start to climb. Plus, the full-cut style gives this helmet an aggressive look and provides ASTM certified coverage even when the chinbar is removed. When your ride is all about descending, your helmet should be too, and the Switchblade Mips is the only removable chinbar helmet that is truly built for the down.

MIPS Technology
The MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) consists of three main components: The EPS liner, the Low Friction liner and an elstomeric attachment system between them. When rotational forces are applied, the elastomers allow the EPS shell to move independently around the head. Helmets equipped with MIPS can offer increased protection in certain situations.

X-STATIC pads
The X-Static pads are woven with silver threads. They are quick-drying and antibacterial to prevent odour build-up. In addition, the thermal properties of the X-Static pads give the rider a cooling sensation in hot weather and a warming sensation in cold weather.

Good
Translated from the German To the original
The helmet is well made, looks good once it's on and the fit is good. It might be a bit heavier than a regular full face due to the detachable chin bar mechanism, but I wanted that functionality so it's ok. One downside is that it's quite narrow at the bottom, mainly due to the padding around the cheeks, and it's a bit difficult to put on, plus I have to take my glasses off. My head is about 58 cm tall, so almost on the border to size M.

Well

The Switchblade is more of a full face helmet from which you can also remove the chin guard. But even without a chin guard, it feels more like full face. I have a size 58 and tried it in an M. Once it's on your head, it fits like a glove. Unfortunately, that's exactly how the process of putting on and taking off feels. I hardly got it over my ears. A very painful process. Since I wear glasses, it bothers me that I have to take off the glasses in order to be able to put on the helmet without a chin guard. But since most drive with sports glasses, everyone has the problem. Personally, the DD lock bothers me. Sure, it's very reliable and safe, but the helmet was just too tight for me to just loosen the chin strap and then be able to put the helmet on and off. The ventilation feels more like a full face helmet. The area of application of this helmet does not really open up to me. I still have an old Bell Super 3R, but it's a bit too big for me. But it is much more airy because it also leaves your ears free. You only need the chin guard when you are in the bike park, where the risk of falling is greater than on tours. The Bell's chin guard is sufficient for this additional security. The Giro may be good in the bike park, but it is too warm for tours even without a chin guard. If you only wear it in the bike park for convenience, you can buy a normal full face straight away. In addition, the Switchblade is probably only for narrow heads. If I took it in L, it would be like my Bell and it would be too far.
