Unlike pawl systems, the two toothed pulleys of the freewheel system guarantee that all teeth are always fully engaged.

With pawl systems, only one pawl may be engaged - putting extra stress on the freehub bearings. This places extreme loads on the hubs and freewheel bearings. With heavy loads (e.g. steep uphill), a total failure is usually the result. The Newmen rear wheel hubs are fitted exclusively with high-quality, double-sealed industrial bearings with a special grease filling. The grease used by Newmen offers 25% higher water resistance and a very high operating temperature, which protects the bearings from premature wear and corrosion. The 17 mm oversize rear axle is butted inside for weight reasons and provides best stiffness values. Besides the more modern design of the Straightpull hubs there are other excellent advantages of these hubs: The spokes don’t touch each other - so they won’t make unpleasant noises and the spoke heads can’t work themselves into the spoke flange. If desired the Straightpull hubs can also be spoked crosswise.

TA-Caps (Tolerance Adjustment-Caps) are used to compensate for all component and assembly tolerances and ensure long and smooth running of the hubs.
