The bag withstands showers, even without rain protection, without the contents becoming soaked. Protection against moisture was important to me, with the previous bag I couldn't get the protective cover out quickly enough, even with the smallest drop. Disadvantages that you have to accept with better protection against moisture: smaller interior, due to the good padding, and hook closure (flap lid), which cannot be opened as quickly and easily as a zipper. You can not have everything;-)
