Product description

Ortler E-Montana 500 Trapeze black mat (black mat)

Due to bottlenecks and delays in worldwide supply chains, the manufacturer may have replaced individual components from the original specification with equivalent or even higher quality components. Therefore, the bicycle delivered may deviate from the images in certain cases.

Unless stated otherwise all of our bikes and brake accessories are sold according to the EU standard brake setup (right hand rear and left hand front) which is in reverse to UK standard brake setup.

Please note: the majority of our electronic products that come with plugs are fitted with 2-pronged EU plugs as standard. The operating voltage remains the same, however you may require an additional, simple EU to UK adapter to use them

With the Montana, Ortler has created a high-quality trekking e-bike that is guaranteed to make every e-tour a pleasure.

The latest generation of e-bikes impresses with its powerful Shimano STePS E-6100 mid-engine. Trekking bikers not only make faster progress, but can also cover considerably longer distances. In addition to the modern electric drive, the Montana impresses above all with its well thought-out and durable details. The Shimano Alivio 9-speed transmission ensures the right gear selection, and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes provide absolute reliability at all times and in all weathers. The 50 mm travel of the Suntour suspension fork ensures comfortable riding even on forest roads. Schwalbe Energizer Plus tyres impress with low rolling resistance and very good grip. Riding comfort is thus guaranteed. The equipment package is rounded off by an AXA LED lighting system, a stable tour carrier and high-quality details such as Ergo handles, stem and handlebars as well as a comfortable Selle Royal gel saddle. The Shimano Steps drive is a modern mid-engine system characterised by high reliability, high power and long range. The special highlights of the Shimano Steps drive are its pushing aid, multifunctional display and long range abilities. The battery is 80% charged after 2 hours and complete after 4 hours. Thanks to the integrated charging station, the battery can be recharged directly on the bike. This e-bike is suitable for a maximum total weight of 120 kg.

Ortler E-Montana 500 trapeze black
Translated from the German To the original
I have now ridden the Ortler E-Montana 500 e-bike for around 500 km and am extremely happy with my choice. The e-bike impresses with its solid construction and high-quality Shimano components. The bike shows its strengths particularly in daily use for my commute in city traffic. The motor provides reliable and comfortable support, and the Shimano components ensure smooth shifting and braking performance. The only comment I have concerns the sheet metal protection. When it rains, the bike tends to get a few splashes. To prevent this problem, I installed splash guards on both front and rear mudguards as a precaution. This has proven to be an effective solution and ensures I stay clean and dry in all weather conditions. Overall, the Ortler E-Montana 500 is a reliable and powerful e-bike that is ideal for everyday use in city traffic. I can recommend it without hesitation.

Helkar's good bike

The best purchase I've ever made online. With the curved handlebar, I got rid of the numbness in my hands that I suffered from for many years. About 2,700 km have come on the meter in a couple of years.

Nice, handy and inexpensive pedelec with a few weaknesses
Translated from the German To the original
According to the retailer's description, the battery is already 80% charged after two hours and fully charged after four hours. That's not true: charging takes place continuously over 6 ¼ hours. The battery charge drops very quickly with high support, i.e. it is not really suitable for longer mountain rides and really does not live up to its name "Montana", especially in connection with the company name "Ortler". The missing turbo drive also contributes to this (only three levels available: Eco, Normal and High). On our steepest street in town I had to pedal hard in first gear to get up (borderline - almost had to get off). With a battery charge over two to three weeks, I can travel 90 km in predominantly eco mode. When fully charged, a maximum of 180 km (Eco), an average of 135 km (Normal) and a minimum of 90 km (High) are displayed, the latter in contrast to the dealer description with a minimum of 70 km, which is more likely to apply. In my experience, the lowest range information for the bike computer (for high support) is correct if you are mainly in Eco mode in our landscape (100m difference in altitude) on the road. On the other hand, on the plain, e.g. along the river, the information seems to be correct. Here was my longest tour so far with about 50 km. I made the aforementioned experiences in late summer and autumn. The supplied documents are numerous, but an impertinence. It's not easy to find anything specific, like activating the shift gear, and having to (awkwardly) keep pressing the switch while shifting. Otherwise a lot of repetitions, useless and inaccurate, e.g.: - If the battery does not charge within two hours, stop using it immediately and contact the seller!? - Once you finally found the charging time (7 ½ hours) that depends on the model, it does not match the dealer description and neither does it match reality (see above); - You shouldn't charge the battery on the ground!? Maybe that's why the power cord is so short that it doesn't even reach from the wall socket at light switch height to the floor. On the other hand, it should be avoided at all costs that the battery falls to the ground. So what now? Aggravating: - Derailleur gears snag, especially when shifting up under load. Then it takes a little longer for the chain to snap into place with a bang, despite slacking off when pedaling vigorously; - The rear mudguard is too short, on wet roads you have dirt on your backpack or clothing (the front mudguard is actually too short: dirt spatters on the frame tube and engine); - With (only) wet shoe soles you slip off the pedals; - When it's dark, you can't see which gear you're in because the indicator isn't illuminated. If you install a suspension seat post, you should have legs that are at least 80 cm long, otherwise you can no longer stand on the ground when you sit on the saddle (with an otherwise suitable frame size 52). Conclusion: Nice, handy and inexpensive pedelec with a few weaknesses. The latter also with regard to the very sparse dealer network. At the moment I don't know who could do customer service or repairs for me.
