Semi-integrated headsets
With a semi-integrated Ahead headset, both bearing cups disappear into the head tube, and only the slightly thicker ends are visible from the outside. You can recognise a semi-integrated headset by the abbreviation ZS (Zero Stack). If you want to mount a ZS headset, you'll have to have both bearing cups pressed into the headtube. The integration of the bearing shells inside the tube also means a wider head tube, which makes it even more stable. In addition, the inner bearings bring the fork and stem closer to the head tube, which allows for a flatter design. Among our range, you'll find semi-integrated headsets in a variety of colours and widths. Combinations of ZS and EC or IS headsets are also possible and available in our shop.

Semi Integrated Headsets?

There was a time when there was no risk of confusion when buying a new headset, as they only existed in the 1-1/8″ size and only with outer caps. This is no longer the case, with the addition of the integrated and semi integrated versions and the new 1.5″ size, which have made it a little more difficult to identify the correct type of headset when it needs to be replaced. Let's look in particular at the characteristics of the semi integrated headset. In this case, the bearings are housed inside caps that are in turn inserted almost completely inside the head tube, except for a small external lip. Also in this case, as with the outer cups, the installation is done by pressure using a manual press, and of the three types of headset this is the one that requires the largest diameter of the head tube.

Semi Integrated Headsets: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a semi-integrated headset?

Basically, there are 3 types of headsets and they differ in the way the bearings are inserted into the frame. In the case of the semi-integrated version the bearings are located inside the head tube, but are not supported directly by it, rather by metal cups press-fitted into the tube.

What is the difference between integrated and semi-integrated headsets?

The difference between an integrated and a semi-integrated headset is that in the integrated system the bearings fit directly inside the head tube of the frame in special housings cut into the tube, whereas in the semi-integrated system the bearings are also inside the head tube, but do not rest directly on it, but rather on metal cups pressed into the head tube.
