Tyres need to sit tightly on rims so they stay in place during hard braking or when cornering. But the tighter the seat on the rim, the more strenous the (dis)mounting of the tyre can be. Decent tyre levers are indispensable helpers in removing the tyre without causing damage and are very useful for getting it back on again. At least one (or better, two) of these small, robust plastic levers belongs in every emergency repair set. They should be shaped without sharp edges, so as not to damage the inner tube, tyre or rim. Most of the offered tyre lever sets can be clipped together to save space and those that have had to hunt for a little black lever on a leafy forest floor will immediately understand that super bright colours also offer a real advantage!
