OCR shoes have to do a lot, well, in order to get you across the finish line. For muddy courses the shoes have to have chunky, self-cleaning lugs for grip and they have to be fast draining so water and mud can escape before it weighs you down. For rocky or uneven surfaces the shoes need side protection, reinforced soles and a rubber toe cap to prevent injuries. Lots of OCR have rope climbing as a central element and so lots of OCR shoes are now adding specific mid-sole lugs designed to help you whizz up those ropes.
