ICE Technology
Fading of the brake during longer continuous operation, for example when driving downhill, impairs braking performance. SHIMANO has introduced brake discs and pads with ICE technology to create a cooling technology for consistently high braking performance. The brake disc has a three-layer sandwich structure of stainless steel on the outside around an aluminium core. It radiates heat better and reduces for example a surface temperature of 400 ˚C on 300˚C. There is also a cooling vane on the brake pad. The design of the disc in combination with the cooling fins results in a longer pad life, less brake noise, less fading and a lower weight.

ICE-TECH brake piston
ICE-Tech pistons ensure weight optimization, high stiffness and heat dissipation. Oversize pistons transfer the hydraulic power directly to the brake pad. A ceramic material (XTR: highly insulated plastic) is used to prevent heat transfer and ensure constant, safe braking performance. This provides efficient brake power transfer without losses.

One Way Bleeding
The One Way Bleeder is designed to quickly and easily prevent air from entering the hydraulic system. Shimano have optimized the brake fluid flow path throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from trapping in the system. The one-way mineral oil path, together with the funnel for filling, allows clean, easy bleeding.
