Compatible with 12-speed MICRO SPLINE cassettes, the SHIMANO DEORE XT freehub features SCYLENCE technology for improved driving rigidity and a quieter trail experience.

E-Trhu Axle
The tool-less type thru-axle skewer system optimizes rigidity and weight balance and enables easy operation with a reliable internal cam mechanism. The 15 mm thru-axle system is 15% stiffer torsionally and 25% stiffer in transverse shear than a traditional 9 mm quick release front axle system. High rigidity is secured while keeping the optimum weight balance. The E-THRU axle hub system minimizes the distortion of suspension while maintaining lightweight for riding around sharp corners at high speed. An 8 mm thru-axle system for the trekking/hybrid hub and dynamo hub and a 12 mm thru-axle system for the rear are also available.

The hub lasted approx. 2500 km, after which the inner workings were ground to fine aluminum powder so that the freewheel no longer locked and the bike was impassable. Shimano mechanics confirmed to me that there would be problems with the new freewheel and that it would often not be able to withstand the stresses and strains of Ebike operations. The 11-speed hubs, which are more stable, were recommended. The very similar Sylence freewheel of the XTR 12-speed hubs had the same problems. It's a shame, the system is interesting, but unfortunately not yet fully developed. I find it inappropriate that Shimano brings immature products onto the market and misuses the customer as a product tester!
