With the RS-805, Shimano delivers a new hydraulic disc brake at Ultegra level for racing bikes. The ST-RS685 shift/brake lever unit, BR-RS805 flat-mount calipers and optional Ice-Tech brake discs (SM-RT81) deliver all the benefits of Shimano's disc brake systems. The ergonomic, adjustable lever is suitable for different hand sizes and allows easy, clearly defined shifting through its 2x11 gears.
The Servo Wave brake lever takes up a lot of braking distance at the beginning of its movement so that the linings can be guided to the brake disc with little lever travel. An elegant appearance and high-quality technologies distinguish Shimano's new SLX. The greater part of the lever travel is thus still available for increasing the braking force and metering more precisely.
One-way venting is designed to quickly and easily prevent air from entering the hydraulic system. Shimano has optimised the flow path of the brake fluid throughout the system to prevent air bubbles from settling in the system. The one-way brake fluid cable path and mineral oil filling funnel provide clean, trouble-free bleeding.
Fading of the brake during longer uninterrupted operation, for example during downhill, impairs braking performance. Shimano has introduced brake discs and pads with Ice-Tech technology to create cooling technology for consistently high braking performance. The brake disc has a three-layer sandwich structure of stainless steel on the outside and an aluminium core. It radiates heat better and reduces a surface temperature from 400° C to 300° C, for example. In addition, the brake linings have optional cooling fins. The design of the disc in conjunction with the cooling fins results in longer pad life, less braking noise, less fading and a lower weight.
