Based on a brake system which was already the benchmark for mountain bike brakes, SHIMANO engineers revised the design of the new brake levers (BL-M9100/9120). Both the clamp and the lever itself have been modified. The clamp angled moves further to the lever's centre. This cleverly supports the outer end of the reservoir tank on the handlebar and thereby provides a further abutment for lever actuation. This significantly increases stiffness and stability, which ultimately leads to an even more direct brake feedback and improved controllability.
The two-piston brake (BR-M9100) is combined with a light XC brake lever, whose reach is of course adjustable to fit individual requirements. The four-piston brake (BR-M9120) unleashes its immense potential in combination with a special SERVO-WAVE brake lever (BL-M9120), whose reach can also be adjusted without tools and which also allows to adjust free travel. Both calipers are contructed as a one-piece aluminum design and are paired with highly rigid brake hoses, allowing the new XTR brake systems to score with significantly quicker response and less free travel.
