Shimano XTR

The mountain bike craze started in the 1980s, and many races started to be staged, especially in the US. Shimano had produced a line of components specifically for mountain bikes called SHIMANO DEORE XT. But it wasn't up to par for usage in the emerging mountain bike “races“. In response, Shimano started creating components specifically for mountain bike racing and introduced XTR in 1991. The "R" in XTR stands for racing. Shimano Total Integration (STI), the idea of methodically integrating the technology of distinct functional components and so providing more value as a system, continues to shape XTR as the flagship mountain bike component line.

On the Bikester.co.uk website, you can choose from a wide range of bike components specially made for Mountain cyclists. There is everything available from brakes to pedals to chains and gear levers and much more with a range of XTR series products.

Shimano XTR brakes

The Shimano offers the Trail and Race XTR brakes. The latter is lighter because it does not have finned brake pads or the power-enhancing ServoWave lever design.

Similar to the majority of it's brakes, the XTR Race is supplied as a caliper and pre-bled lever, to which you must afterwards add a rotor and adaptor. The rotor displayed is the most advanced RT99 Freeza model, with a laminated structure, heat-dissipating fins, and an aluminum carrier.

XTR sports a hinged design with something like a push-button swift feature as opposed to a split clamp. This used to be a little stiff on XT, but it moves much more fluidly on XTR.

The Shimano XTR Race brake doesn't have the same amount of power as the Formula R1 Sport. But it is more ergonomic, has a lighter action, and has greater modulation.

During forceful stops, the ultralight lever body flexes a little, and it displays the typical Shimano tendency of pulling to the bar then feeling firm the following moment. However, it's simple to put up, simple to bleed, and in this trial, a killer value.

Choose Shimano XTR products to advance your adventure

When mountain biking, the terrain's conditions can drastically change from one turn to the next and from one second to the next. Mountain cyclists need to be able to quickly assess their options, perceive the environment, and operate their bikes. By offering the greatest level of accuracy and integration, Shimano XTR meets the needs of today's most demanding riders. XTR's initial objective is of becoming the best race components.
