It's unlikely that you'll wear a triathlon suit when training. In competition, however, it's the athlete's main piece of clothing from the first swim stroke to the finish sprint. Therefore, a triathlon suit must be able to glide well through the water when swimming in lieu of a wetsuit. It should offer breathability, aerodynamics and wind protection for on the bike and last but not least, with the right padding, optimise comfort in the saddle. However, the same suit must not chafe on the running course and must be light and well ventilated to prevent overheating. Depending on the distance, different versions are available. For a long-distance run, seat pads and small pockets for energy gel and bars are very useful; for sprint triathlons these features are less important.
