Triathletes have the same demands on their cycling shoes as other road cyclists – optimal power transmission, a stiff sole, low weight, and perfect fit and ventilation. But other factors are specifically important for triathlon competition. For one, triathlon shoes are designed for quick and ideally one-handed operation. This includes a robust pull-on loop at the heel in addition to an easy-to-use Velcro closure system. Secondly, these shoes are optimised for barefoot use. This usually means an antibacterial lining with no uncomfortable seams or pressure points. Short changing times, efficiency and the necessary comfort are the focus.
