Many helmets claim to be the icon, the legend, the undisputed champion - the D4 has a good chance of claiming it - whether in carbon or composite construction. Equipped with the MIPS Brain Protection System - a low friction layer integrated into the helmet that reduces rotational movement on the brain in the event of an angled impact to the head, it is both lightweight and safe. With a shell construction and aerospace materials, the D4 composite helmet's weight has been reduced to 1050 grams without sacrificing strength. The extended EPS layer on the lower edge of the helmet has been integrated to prevent collarbone injuries. For comfort, the D4 Composite directs cooling air through a front air intake system, which then flows through the polymer midsection and Power Grid side grille. MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System).
The MIPS fall protection system is a low-friction layer under the helmet padding that reduces the rotational forces transmitted to the brain during an impact. This layer allows the head to move 10-15 mm relative to the helmet in all directions during a fall, redirecting energies and forces that would otherwise be transmitted to the brain. MIPS helmets are designed to protect the brain from an angled impact because angled falls create rotational forces that are transmitted to the brain and can lead to brain injury. MIPS can reduce both rotational motion and the risk of brain damage.
