Product description

VAUDE Uphill 16 LW Backpack orange madder (orange madder)

Double protection! This lightweight bike pack with 16 liters of carrying capacity protects your back and the environment. The eco-friendly manufactured material of this minimalist backpack consists of lightweight, siliconized 40D Rip-Stop while the outer mesh pockets consist of thin mesh material; even the shoulder straps, hipbelt and buckles were specifically designed to be extremely light in construction. The outer multi-function drawcord system has a three-fold function: for compression, as a helmet holder and as additional attachment possibility, for a jacket, for example. The body-contact suspension system provides close-fitting carrying comfort on longer bike tours. You can stow an energy bar or gel in the shoulder strap pocket for a quick energy boost. With hydration system port and raincover in a pack sack. Green Shape is your VAUDE guarantee for eco-friendly products - made from sustainable materials and resource-conserving production.

Vaude Green Shape-Label
With the Green Shape label, Vaude offers functional, environmentally-friendly products made from sustainable materials. They are manufactured under fair working conditions along the entire supply chain. The criteria for the label are strict and transparent. They are under constant review and cover the entire lifecycle of the product from design, through production, care and maintenance, to repair and the product’s end of life.

ECO FINISH
Vaude products bearing the Eco Finish been waterproofed in an environmentally-friendly way without fluorcarbons (PFC). PFCs are part of a group of chemical compounds which are used to waterproof the outer layer of many outdoor products. They have come under criticism for being non-biodegradable, bioaccumulative and toxic, and suspected of being harmful to health. Vaude has made a clear commitment to completely renouncing PFCs.

Ultralight
The Ultralight icon identifies Vaude backpacks that belong to the lightest in their class available on the market today. Their minimal weight is made possible by extremely lightweight materials and by paring them down to the most necessary features.

Great lightweight backpack
This product exceeded my expectations. I bought it to use when hiking, and was concerned about the fit as such products are often designed for longer bodies and for taller, broader people than myself, and when I opened up the parcel and put the pack on empty it felt very odd. Having used it (not empty) I can say that the fit is good (I am 5'4"), although much better when the pack is reasonably full (or with the drawcord pulled tight), as with most close fitting packs. The net pockets at each side are a must for me, and are easily reachable while the pack is on. The zip pocket on the front right strap, although small, is a very handy feature for an easily accessible snack or a credit card. There is a pocket inside the main compartment for your hydration system and an opening each side for the tube, so you can drink from either side, or indeed have two types of liquid on the go, very useful for endurance events where both water and sports drink might be needed. The smaller pocket (not that small actually, it extends halfway down the back of the pack) is useful to keep some items separate from the main compartment. I haven't used the drawcord yet. This is not elastic, but is adjustable. So far I've only used this pack for day hikes in warm weather, but have always taken spare clothes and other stuff just to fill up the pack (sitmat, beach towel, 2l water, snacks). It could easily fit enough for an overnight stay, although it is not the right pack to carry full camping gear. I like the fact that the raincover is detachable. The pack is very well made and although lightweight, I don't feel I have to be really careful every time I put it on the ground. It feels perfectly robust enough for normal hiking use. I tried running with it briefly, which was fine, but not for long enough to truly test it in this capacity. if you like lightweight packs, and 16l is the capacity you are looking for, this is a great product.
