The new rim profile reduces crosswind susceptibility and the Cogniton hubs offer best aerodynamics with best power transmission. With the 32 mm high and 25.4 mm wide aerodynamic carbon rim, the Zipp 202 NSW front wheel is the perfect competition companion for all purposes from flat stages to mountain stages to triathlon. Despite their low weight, the Zipp 202 NSW are approved for riders up to 115 kg.
Zipp's patented ABLC Sawtooth rim profile reduces air resistance even when the wind strikes the rim at an acute angle rather than frontally. The new NWS rims offer even better aerodynamics with less susceptibility to crosswind. The effective usable angle range here is significantly larger than with comparable rims. This is achieved by a special effect, which also occurs on the golf ball. For this reason, Zipp wheels have the many small recesses on the rim surface. In addition, Zipp uses VCLC technology (Visco - Elastic Constrained Layer Control), in which particularly shock-absorbing, viscoelastic materials are introduced into the carbon matrix. Zipp's Carbon Bridge technology uses Kevlar fibers sewn into the edge area of the carbon matrix to increase shock resistance. The deep side surfaces additionally dampen vibrations. External spoke nipples additionally simplify maintenance without aerodynamic disadvantage.
Zipp Cogniton Hubs
The new Cognition Straightpull hubs, made of high-strength Z310.9 aluminium are extremely lightweight and offer a new freewheel body technology. The Swiss stainless steel bearings are the most precise in the entire industry. Specially developed hub bodies also distribute the load of the spokes more evenly over a larger surface to prevent torsion in the bearing area. The result is lower resistance and greater durability. The 17 mm hub axles are extremely stiff. The hub itself is milled using modern EDM technology so that 50 percent harder materials can be machined 20 times more precisely. The Cogniton hub series with Straightpull spokes offer an even higher lateral stiffness.
The revised ABLC (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control) design reduces drag through more and less turbulence to ensure unsurpassed stability and control even in the strongest winds.
