Castelli: An unfair advantage
The roots of the renowned Italian cycling outfitter Castelli go back to the famous Vittore Gianni Boutique in Milan, founded in 1876. In 1910, for the very first time, special cycling clothing was manufactured by this fashion label – and for none other than five-time Giro champion Alfredo Bindo. From the very beginning, Castelli has stood for innovative bike wear.
Castelli is a name that resonates with all serious riders, whether professional or amateur, who appreciate its timeless look, world class products and quality of clothing that is designed to last. From the very beginning, Castelli has always stood for high performance, innovation and style, and it is therefore no surprise that the brand has consistently been chosen to represent the world’s top teams and riders at events such as the Tour de France and the Giro d’italia. The fit and functionality of Castelli bike clothing is designed to enhance both cyclists’ performance and comfort - no matter how tough the challenge.
Stylish innovations for passionate cyclists
The award winning Castelli roots go back over 100 years to the famous Vittore Gianni clothing boutique in Milan. Celebrated for its tailoring of clothing for icons such as AC Milan, Juventus and the Milan Ballet, by the turn of the 20th century, the fashion label turned its attention to specialist clothing for cyclists and counted the legendary five-time Giro champion Alfredo Bindo among its prestigious clients. In 1935, passionate cyclist Armando Castelli joined the team, and by 1939, he had purchased the company. As the company grew, Armando Castelli maintained its reputation for working with high-profile clients throughout the 20th century, but it would be his son, Maurizio Castelli who would take over the company in 1974 and establish the name and brand as we know it today.
Castelli is well known for its industry-leading and innovative bike clothing, with a long line of breakthrough designs that have included the first aerodynamic Lycra shorts, windproof jerseys and thermal clothing. In 2007 Castelli revolutionised race clothing with the Giro leg band, the first radiating insulation system in 2008 for cycling in cold weather, seamless bib shorts in 2009 and was the first to integrate nano-technology in 2010 with Nano Flex proprietary water repellent fabrics, which get rid of water without using membranes that inhibit the fabric’s breathability.
