Softshell jackets are perfect for cycling. They're soft on the skin and protect against the cold, wind and rain. Using a combination of synthetic fibre layers with different properties, they're able to offer warmth and protection from bad weather. Softshell jackets are usually more breathable than rain jackets as well as warmer. Many also have a windbreaker layer. Depending on the specified water column, these soft, warm all-rounders also offer good protection against showers, but are no substitute for a real rain jacket in heavy downpours.
