Technologies:
BlackChili Compound
The running properties of a tyre's rubber compound are largely determined by three interacting factors - static friction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma: If one of these factors is improved, at least one of the other factors worsens in return. A tyre with maximum grip wears faster and rolls slower. If you make the tyre faster or more durable, its grip decreases again.
With the BlackChili Compound, a tread compound that’s based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research, Continental has provided the cycling scene with a lasting answer to the problem. Depending on the area of application of a tyre, the compound recipe is specifically adapted - whether for racing bikes or mountain bikes, for time trials or downhill. For BlackChili, Continental refines special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to produce particularly high-performance tread compounds. Soot particles are then added to these mixtures, which in turn are optimised in shape and surface properties. The complex compound technology is so sensitive that tyres with BlackChili Compound are produced exclusively in Korbach.
ProTection
ProTection technology gives tyres the perfect blend of smoothness, grip and puncture protection. This is made possible by an additional, all-round puncture protection layer, which makes the entire tyre particularly resistant and insensitive to injuries. In spite of the additional layer, the tyre has a very good damping property and irons cleanly over the hardest trails. BlackChili provides the necessary smooth running and grip. Another feature of the ProTection technology from Germany is the Tubeless Ready capability. The revolutionary Tubeless Ready foot allows easy and uncomplicated mounting of the tyre. For optimum results in sealing and use, Continental recommends the use of the new Continental RevoSealant sealant.
Tubeless Ready
Tubeless Ready tyres can be ridden with or without a tube as the tyre and rim are designed to seal directly against each other. However, compared to UST tyres, tubeless ready tyres are much lighter and therefore air-permeable in the sidewall. This is sealed with special sealing milk. All Continental mountain bike tyres are Tubeless Ready in the ProTection and Performance versions. The revolutionary Tubeless Ready foot allows easy and uncomplicated mounting of the tyre. For optimum results in sealing and use, we recommend the use of the new Continental RevoSealant sealant
When mounted correctly, the system is relatively airtight and less sensitive to snake bite punctures than folding or clincher tyres. Voluminous mountain bike tyres in particular benefit from this design. Tubeless Ready tyres can be ridden with lower operating pressure. The risk of punctures is much lower as there is no tube that can be punctured. Also the "wandering" of the tyre on the rim holds no consequences. It also improves grip, comfort and rolling resistance in off-road conditions
