It's actually a good idea to make the V-braces longer, as this allows you to adjust the distance to the coat, but....
it is a clamp mount and the V-beam overlength cannot be determined until the part is assembled. To shorten it you have to dismantle it again. So you mount the plastic sheet twice each... suboptimal.
Pro: they look very nice.
