Everyone at Creme shares a great passion for bicycles, and many of the company's employees come from a background in the mountain bike industry. After stumbling across a pile of beautiful old bike parts in a friend's attic, they were immediately struck by how much attention to detail and care had been lost in today's city bikes. Deciding it was time to breathe some life and elegance back into the classic city bike, the Gdansk-based crew turned this dream of starting a bike brand into reality and Creme was born. Creme bikes are designed and made by hand in Europe. Every single model is a tribute to this love for materials, exquisite details and fine craftsmanship. These are bikes to be seen and experienced.
The founders of Creme were disheartened by the degree to which modern bicycles have lost the style and attention to detail that characterised city bikes of a bygone era. They turned that feeling of loss into a passion for building high-quality bikes, and now Creme bikes can be found in cities around the world. Hand-built in Europe, Creme bikes are as at home in busy financial districts as they are on the cobblestone paths hidden in old city centres.
Classic Style for a Modern Ride
Creme bikes immediately catch the eye. The frames are narrow and feature geometries from an earlier age of bikes. The colours include bright pastels that remind you of days gone by. Leather saddles and wicker front baskets reflect a quality of construction that’s often lacking on today’s mass-produced bicycles. But while Creme bikes incorporate the best aspects of vintage design, they also feature some of the much-loved attributes of modern city bikes. Many Creme bikes come with integrated front lights for safety, as well as metal front racks capable of carrying panniers and other necessary items for your commute. Mudguards keep you dry no matter what the weather conditions, and many Creme bikes are built with an internal geared hub that can help minimise the need for time-consuming maintenance. Altogether, Creme bikes are something unique – vintage-inspired city bikes built for the modern era of urban riding.
Choosing the Right Creme Bike for You
Every bike in Creme’s lineup looks unique by design. But there are a few key construction qualities to consider when choosing a city bike by Creme:
Creme produces city bikes with both a standard triangular frame geometry and a curved step-through geometry. The triangular frame geometry is slightly more aggressive, making it ideal for city riders who want the flexibility to explore the countryside on longer rides from time to time. The step-through frame is better for stop-and-go travel on busy city streets, since you can easily put your feet on the ground when stopped.
The vast majority of Creme bikes are built with an internal geared hub, which has the dual advantages of allowing you to shift while also requiring only a fraction of the maintenance of a standard derailleur. Better yet, internal geared hubs allow you to shift without pedalling – a major plus when biking in cities where traffic lights present a constant stop and go and it’s easy to get caught at a light in a high gear. Crème’s internal geared hubs are available with three to seven speeds. If you live in a particularly hilly city, Creme offers a handful of bikes with a traditional derailleur. These bikes come with up to nine gears, and most of them are built with triangular frame geometry to reflect the aggressive riding style of these city bikes. For flat cities, Creme offers the Vinyl bike series - a singlespeed bike that requires minimal maintenance. The Vinyl series is relatively speedy, with some builds featuring drop bars rather than the swept-back handlebars found on many of Creme’s more relaxed urban bikes.
