Lapierre Zesty AM 4.9 – A full-sus all-mountain bike with race DNA
Lapierre's Zesty is based on the same frame as the Spicy enduro race bike. However, thanks to a different damper length, its travel is reduced to 150 mm, making it ideal for all-mountain missions. Alternatively, it's great for enduro use on moderately rowdy terrain. The aluminium frame offers practically the same geometry and rear triangle system as the carbon frames but is much lighter on your wallet.
Geometry
The Zesty doesn't try to score points with extreme geometry; instead it relies on proven dimensions and balanced handling. Despite the 29-inch wheels, the chainstays are extremely short, making the bike extremely manoeuvrable around corners. Bonus: it's also easier to wheelie! If you prefer somewhat nippier wheels, the geometry of the frame can also be adapted to 27.5 inch wheels with the flip chip.
OST+ - Suspension
Optimised Suspension Technology, which has been continuously refined for over ten years, ensures perfect suspension performance both uphill and downhill. Now in the Plus version, the rear triangle rotates around a virtual pivot point in front of the bottom bracket. The sensitively-responding rear triangle is decoupled from pedal forces by the system. This means that the suspension doesn't influence your pedalling – and vice versa!
Equipment
Even though the AM 4.9 is the entry-level model in the series, it offers plenty of bang for the buck. Compared to the top model, you'll have to live with a little more weight, but the Shimano Deore always shifts reliably, and with the Maxxis tyres, you're guaranteed not to lose control on the corners.
