BMX & Dirt Shoes
Here at Bikester we know the gear that you need when you're hitting the trails. When you're daring to speed along jumps, steep inclines and rough terrain you need shoes that will support and protect you.
Unlike road-bike shoes with their cleats that click into the pedals, BMX and dirt bike shoes generally accompany flat pedals. They offer freedom and mobility for the foot whilst also guaranteeing a firm grip.
What shoes to wear for BMX and dirt biking
MTB shoes are generally solid and have cushioning to protect the foot. They're often flat-soled and extremely grippy, to allow the foot freedom whilst also gripping well to the pedals during extreme rides.
BMX shoes transition perfectly to the street when you want to get off and walk. The traction of the soles serves perfectly during tricks and rides but doesn't impact normal walking off-bike.
Look out for useful features on shoes such as:
- Mesh-insert ventilation and perforated upper for maximum airflow and cooling whilst on the bike
- Padding around the ankle area and tongue for all-day comfort
- Reinforced areas on the toes and back for a more durable shoe
- All-round tongue preventing excessive dirt entry
- Thick, shaped insoles for impact reduction
- Moisture protection — there's nothing worse than soggy socks!
Those who love to ride dirt bikes and BMXs will know that your feet can sometimes take a beating. That's why features such as cushioning, re-inforced areas and good grip are absolutely essential when choosing a pair of shoes.
When you're off the bike, too
As we've previously mentioned, a good pair of BMX shoes will allow you to walk or hike comfortably as well as serving you well on your bike.
The incredible grip that assists you on your pedals also helps when you're walking on slippery or wet terrain. Many of our adventures combine walking and biking, so it's essential that you choose a pair of shoes that you feel comfortable walking in as well as biking in.
Make use of our sizing guide here at Bikester, and our helpful customer service team, to make sure you choose the right-sized shoe for you.
It's definitely not just your feet that need protection and support when you're out on the bike. Shop our range of helmets, suitable for BMXing and dirt biking.
Unlike a classic helmet, BMX-specific helmets offer extra elements such as visors, more rounded shapes and breathable technology. Some BMX helmets are full-face, often comprised of a lightweight fibreglass outer shell and a strong inner shell.
Many of the full-face helmets out there are compatible with inflatable emergency impact technology which can be an extra level of protection for extreme and experienced downhill and BMX riders.
Whether you want a full-face or a standard helmet, Bikester has a great range to choose from. Look out for features such as adjustable visors, active cooling systems and strategic padding to ensure that you find the right helmet for your needs.
